This Sunday, many will be celebrating Father's Day! Many of us will spend time with our Dad's over this weekend, or if you live a long distance away as I do, then you send a card and call on the phone. Unfortunately, there will be those who no longer have their dad around because they have passed away and even some who never even knew their father or maybe they had a dad but he was never really there for them.
I don't pretend to know or understand what it means to not have a dad in my life. I have been blessed with an amazing father who is not only still here on this earth but has always set an example of what it means to be a good man who cares for and loves his family and is also a strong spirit filled Christian. My dad will be 80 this year which is hard to believe but, in the spirit, he is much older and wiser. He is one of those guys who has read the bible so much over the years that he can tell you where that verse or passage is if you wanted to know something specific.
I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for my dad and the Christian heritage I grew up in but most importantly that I am his son. My worship today to the Father comes easier for me because of the example of a loving father I've had here. I love my dad and I love my heavenly Father even more.
However, if you've never had or experienced a loving dad in your life, know that there is a Father in heaven that looks and cares about you even more. His love for you is unconditional, merciful, gracious and compassionate. He desires nothing more than for you to run to Him and love on Him because you are His creation and He is always faithful to fulfill the promises of His word to you and for you.
So, as we honor our earthly Fathers this weekend, be sure to honor and worship our heavenly Father for just who He is. He will never leave you or disappoint you. He has a plan, a hope, a dream for you because you are His son or daughter.
And to the Fathers out there who are setting the examples every day of what it means to be a good and godly father – keep going because you are needed, valued and so much appreciated!
Happy Father's Day!
